Possession Stats
Following on from the early season threads around our style of play I thought I'd start a spreadsheet detailing possession across the top 4 tiers and it's direct correlation if any to success or whether it truly is just a pointless statistic that people put people put too much emphasis on in the modern game.
I've started this evening with league 1. Sample size is fairly small with 51 games. However, it does seem at this level that actually having more of the ball and match result only have a loose correlation and that correlation becomes non-existant at the higher levels of possession (the only game where a team had between 75-80% ended in defeat and only one victory out of the five 70-75% games)
My hypothesis is that at the top level the correlation will be stronger as the players are better and able to play the killer passes needed against a team happy to concede possession.
