66-year-old Portland man dies in hospital nearly 2 months after Dawson Park shooting

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Law enforcement has revealed that a 66-year-old man who was shot at a North Portland park earlier this summer was recently pronounced dead in the hospital.

The Portland Police Bureau identified Ronald Davis as one individual who was hit with gunfire at Dawson Park nearly two months ago. According to the agency, he died of complications from the gunshot wounds on Saturday, Sept. 7.

Davis was one of two people injured in the shooting on Friday, July 19. Police responded to the scene just after 4 p.m. that afternoon, but the suspect had already fled the scene.

One gunshot victim was driven to the hospital and another went to the hospital on their own. At the time, authorities said both individuals were expected to survive.

PPB’s Focused Intervention Team and Enhanced Community Safety Team discovered more than 70 shell casings in the area. Authorities’ initial investigation found that a vehicle pulled up to the scene, and at least one person inside was shooting in the direction of the park.

The shooting, which happened near a preschool, spurred an outcry against violence from community leaders and residents.

Anyone with additional information is urged to contact law enforcement.
