TOPEKA (KSNT) - A Topeka printing company is expanding after making a deal with Shawnee County and the capital city.
Topeka and Shawnee County's Joint Economic Organization (JEDO) approved an expansion agreement of Southwest Publishing & Mailing, a Moore company on Wednesday, Sept. 11. As part of the expansion, the company based in southeast Topeka has rebranded its local facility as Moore Digital Print & Mail Center - Topeka, according to a news release from GO Topeka.
"We're excited about the growth we're experiencing and are eager to expand our presence in the Topeka community," Shane Hillmer, President of Moore Digital Print & Mail Center - Topeka said. "This investment will help us build the Moore Digital Print & Mail Center - Topeka to meet the demands of a new era in data-driven direct mail production. Our upcoming expansion along with the support we've received from JEDO and GO Topeka, will enhance our technology enabled production center, which is powered by data and designed with sustainability in mind."
The project, previously known as "Project Oriole," is expected to result in 60 new jobs with Moore planning to make a capital investment of $31 million. According to the news release, up to $272,000 of Economic development funds, dispersed over five years, are offered to the business through JEDO to aid the growth of the company.
The projected local impact of the expansion is $240 million over 10 years, making the community's return on investment 246%.
"I'm happy Moore sees the value in growing in, and with, Topeka," Topeka Mayor Mike Padilla said. "They are a strong company with great employees and national reach. I know the business will continue to be an involved member of this community, adding to our robust local economy in meaningful ways."
"The Moore Digital Print & Mail Center - Topeka has been designed as a technology hub to optimize direct mail production. The facility offers envelope manufacturing, digital printing and high-capacity workflow automation to streamline production and accelerate time to mailbox," Jeff Pelcher, CEO of Production at Moore said.
