Topeka Public Schools students honor the fallen on 9/11
TOPEKA (KSNT) - Topeka Public Schools (TPS) are honoring the fallen of 9/11 on Wednesday.
On Sept. 11, 2024 high schools around Topeka held flag ceremonies followed by a moment of silence for the victims of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. Topeka West High School ended their ceremony with honorary tags and a moment of silence.
27 News spoke with some local cadets, Jackson Wood, Haley Custnbrdr and Brielle Belshe, about participating in these ceremonies many years later.
"I feel honored being able to honor those who have fallen," Wood said.
"It makes me feel, from what I've learned, an honor, to do this," Custnbrdr said. "Especially on today and during a moment of silence."
"I am very grateful," Belshe said. "I am very appreciative. One thing I always love about being a cadet is being able to pay my respects to veterans, and I love being able to stand out here and honor the people that died fighting for our country."
