Sabrina Carpenter Accents Madonna’s 1991 Oscars Gown With Giuseppe Zanotti Platforms at 2024 VMAs
Sabrina Carpenter borrowed Madonna’s 1991 Oscars look for the 2024 VMAs, wearing an archival Bob Mackie gown with Giuseppe Zanotti platform sandals.
The strapless floor-length gown featured rows of sequins creating a sumptuous pearlescent shine. The sharply defined sweetheart neckline, designed with a distinctive curvilinear outline, was embellished with an intricate pearl trim which extended onto the bustier in an abstract curvy pattern. Staying true to the pop icon, Carpenter also paid homage to Madonna’s old Hollywood blonde curls and red lipstick. The “Espresso” singer set off the look with an elegant T-shaped diamond necklace.
For her footwear, Carpenter selected Giuseppe Zanotti’s Tarifa platform sandal, which featured an open toe and a towering tapered block heel. A curved strap stretched across the toes and created a peep-toe effect while diagonal side straps in the back connected to a strap encircling the ankle. A chunky platform in front added major dimension to the shoe, creating a prominent silhouette.
It comes as no surprise that Carpenter opted to wear platforms to the 2024 VMAs. The elevated look seems to be her shoe style of choice — for example, she recently appeared on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” wearing a light blue pair of platform sandals and also performed in black platform Mary Janes at the Outside Lands Festival this summer.
