Woman horrified to find dead RAT sliced in half in her loaf of bread… but only after she’d already eaten some of it

A “TRAUMATISED” woman was making toast for breakfast when she noticed a dismembered rat lodged inside the crust of her bread.

Nombulelo Mkumla, from South Africa, had already gone through half of the seeded loaf when she’d made the grim discovery.

Horror footage she shared on Facebook showed two pieces of the mangled rat which appeared to be sliced in half, as well as its hair, guts and tail.

The clip gave a detailed look at how the dead rat was formed into the slice, shaped into the edge of the bread.

Nombulelo said: “I took the bread out of the fridge to make toast and noticed something disgusting and scary.”

The woman sent the video to a friend who pointed out the grim reality – a dead rodent lurking in her food.

“I took a picture and sent it to my friends, and one of them said: ‘FYI that’s a rat’.

“I was in denial and suggested it might be something else, but the rat scenario made sense – it’s possible the rat got into the bread at the factory and for no one to notice.”

Nombuelo, from eastern city Durban, also spoke to local news where she called the incident “traumatic and disgusting.”

It’s thought that the rat may have been cut in half during the bread-slicing process in the factory.

Her original video, which has racked up over one million views, features several disgusted comments reacting to the dead animal.

One comment said: “Oh my friend I am very sorry, I can imagine the trauma you are in.”

Another comment read “This is disgusting and totally unacceptable.”

Many of the comments also tag the maker of the bread, SASKO.

Nombulelo said she bought the loaf of SASKO Low GI Seeded Whole Wheat brown bread on her way back from work and reportedly discovered the rodent on August 31.

She said she was making toast one morning when she made the gruesome discovery.

Nombulelo claims to have gone back to the shop to complain about her gruesome discovery but was allegedly pointed towards contacting PepsiCo South Africa, the supplier, to complain.

She also says that a PepsiCo representative later contacted her on the phone regarding the SASKO loaf she bought.

According to IOL, Cornel Vermeulen from PepsiCo South Africa said they are aware of the “isolated incident”.

Vermuelen has also assured customers that an investigation is now underway to find out what happened and samples have been taken from the maimed loaf.

The Sun have contacted PepsiCo South Africa for comment.
