KDOT warns construction could impact K-State game day travel

GEARY COUNTY (KSNT) - The Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) is warning Geary County residents of anticipated delays ahead of a K-State home game.

KDOT said motorists should leave early for the Friday, Sept. 13 K-State football game to allow for the longer travel times. The delays come from a pavement replacement project on a four-mile stretch of I-70 in Junction City between Washington Street and K-57.

All I-70 traffic will be diverted into the eastbound lanes while the work zone is in place. Traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction. Lower speed limits will be in place.

The work is being done is part of the second phase of the construction project and is expected to be finished in November. The entire project is expected to be finished in December 2025, depending on weather conditions.

KDOT said warning message boards will be placed ahead of the work zone.
