Duke Recruiting: Some Updates
Who will be in Jon Scheyer’s next class for Duke?
Over at the Fayetteville Observer, Rodd Baxley has a rundown on several Duke targets: Cameron and Cayden Boozer, Koa Peat, Shelton Henderson, Nate Ament and Nikolas Khamenia.
There are not many major insights here; it’s really more of a general catch up.
The one player where he does express some conviction is with Henderson, saying this: “[r]ecruiting services believe Henderson, who is set to visit Durham on Sept. 27, is a Duke lock.”
Almost all of the players mentioned here either have visited or have visits scheduled. The Boozers just left, having been in at the end of August. We believe Khamenia is in town currently. Peat will come on the weekend of the 20th. Henderson will arrive on the 27th. The only one we’re not sure about is Ament, but there seems to be interest on both sides, so presumably a visit is in the works.
The Boozers are reportedly down to Duke, Miami and Florida. We honestly don’t know if this will make a difference, but Miami’s NIL sugar daddy, John Ruiz, has had some major financial woes. His company, Life Wallet, has been struggling, with $7.7 million in revenues and a net loss of $211 million. He says there’s “substantial doubt” that the company will survive.
NIL has changed a lot since he started paying Miami athletes, but that could be a factor in their recruitment. Time will tell.
