Topeka house fire causes $20k in damage

TOPEKA (KSNT) - An early morning house fire caused $20,000 in damage in downtown Topeka.

At 1:30 a.m. on Sept. 13 the Topeka Fire Department (TFD) was called to the 1000 block of Southwest Polk Street for reports of a two-story house fire. When crews arrived they found smoke and fire coming from the second-story window.

According to the TFD, no occupants were in the home and firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the blaze. No working smoke detectors were found in the home.

A TFD investigation unit determined the fire was intentionally set and caused $20,000 in damage to the structure.
