News and Notes: Lifeless Guardians Fall to the Rays
News and Notes for Friday, September 13th, 2024
The Guardians came off a 10 day road trip flat and lost to Tampa 5-2.
The Rays bullpen allowed one hit in seven innings. The Guardians seemed devoted to getting out of innings as quickly as possible. José Ramírez did get his 39th steal but he's really going to have to get hot to get 40 homers and a 40/40 season. Steven Kwan is walking again and Andres Gimenez and Lane Thomas are viable again.
Gavin Williams didn't give fans a lot of confidence about him as a playoff starter, allowing seven hits, two walks and three runs in five and a third innings against a pretty poor Rays offense.
Alex Cobb went on the IL with his blister and we can only pray he will be healthy to make one or two regular season starts and then be sharp for the playoffs because Williams looks like a number four starter at best right now. Andrew Walters took Cobb's spot and looked solid in his debut, allowing only one run on a pitch clock violation walk, a steal, an error by Bo Naylor on the throw and sacrifice fly. Here's hoping he can supplant Nick Sandlin in the circle of trust.
The division is in front of you, Cleveland. Time to shake off the exhaustion and find a way to get one tonight.
