Morning Briefing: Senga In Line For Late Season Return
Good morning, Mets fans!
Andy Martino of SNY reports that the Mets have realigned their starting rotation for a key series against the Atlanta Braves, and still consider Kodai Senga as a possible option once he’s activated off of the injured list. David Peterson will pitch Sunday in Philadelphia and join Luis Severino and Sean Manaea as the team’s projected starters from Sept. 24-26 in Atlanta. Senga, who is progressing well from a calf injury, could be activated as early as Sept. 25.

Wild Card Update
All four teams in contention in the NL Wild Card race did not play on Thursday, meaning the Mets will maintain a one-game lead over the Braves for the third and final spot going into Friday’s games.

1997: The Mets were down to their last strike against the Montreal Expos for the third time in the game with Carl Everett up to bat. Initially trailing 6-0, they had cut the lead to 6-2 with the bases loaded. Everett, dealing with personal issues, took a swing at a changeup and sent it off the scoreboard, completing a six-run ninth-inning comeback. Bernard Gilkey’s three-run homer in the 11th inning eventually gave the Mets the win.
