Report: Cristian Romero lost his temper this week, but it might help Tottenham
Argentinean outlet Clarin (as translated by Sport Witness) reveal that Cristian Romero is set to miss one match for his country after being cautioned following his side’s loss to Colombia.
Colombia vs Argentina
While Argentina overcame Chile comfortably at home last week, they were stopped in their tracks by the Colombians, who emerged with a 2-1 win over the World Champions in the World Cup qualifier in Barranquilla on Tuesday.
It was a 60th-minute James Rodriguez penalty that proved the difference between the two sides but the away side were not happy with the decision to award the spot kick.
Clarin reveal that Argentina’s protests continued after the full-time whistle, with Romero very much at the thick of it.
Cristian Romero picks up a suspension
The Tottenham man allegedly lost his temper at the officials and was awarded a yellow card, which means that he has now reached the limit of the allowed cautions.
As a result, the 26-year-old has been suspended for Argentina’s upcoming World Cup qualifier against Venezuela next month, which comes as a big blow to Lionel Scaloni’s men.
Unfortunately, Argentina also have a second qualifier against Bolivia in the same week, meaning Romero will almost certainly still be called up to the squad.
Spurs Web Opinion
Ange Postecoglou and Tottenham will be quite pleased by this development as it means that Romero will play one less game next month and will have some much-needed rest amid a busy schedule for Spurs.
Spurs need to keep Romero and Van de Ven fit this season if they want to progress on all fronts.
