Former Governor faces "incisive" congressional questioning
ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — Former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo faced a direct and sometimes hostile inquiry from a House of Representatives panel on policy decisions he made during the COVID-19 pandemic.
This week on Empire State Weekly, Brendan Lyons, an award-winning reporter for Capital Region newspaper the Times Union, explained the key moments from the House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus pandemic. He explained it surprised him that the governor faced "incisive" questions from Democrats on the panel.
"And it was also telling that U.S. Rep. Ruiz had told him right out that 'reminder you are under oath', and normally you don't see the opposing party make a remark like that," Lyons said.
Also this week, Congressman Paul Tonko, a Democrat representing New York's 20th Congressional District, gave insight on his proposed legislation, the Safe Bet Act. This legislation would ban sports betting advertisements during certain times of the day, as well as set other limits on mobile sports betting.
The Congressman compared gambling to addictive substances like heroin, and explained his legislation aims to address what he sees as a lack of regulation around a potentially dangerous activity.
