Moms for Liberty chapter VP arrested on Jan. 6 charges: court records

The vice president of a North Carolina county chapter of Moms for Liberty has been arrested on charges related to the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol.

According to court documents, Justina Guardino was arrested in Wilmington, North Carolina, on charges including entering a restricted building, disorderly conduct, and unlawful picketing in a Capitol building. A PACER entry confirmed the arrest warrant, which was under seal until recently.

The New Hanover County chapter of Moms for Liberty appeared to have scrubbed any mention of Guardino from their website. However, an archived version of their site from April via the Wayback Machine showed the organization previously listed her as vice chair.

Over 1,300 people so far have been arrested in connection with the Jan. 6 insurrection, where supporters of former President Donald Trump violently stormed the building to disrupt the electoral count certification of President Joe Biden. Most faced misdemeanor charges similar to Guardino's alleged counts, although some were convicted of assaulting police officers. The leaders of far-right groups like the Proud Boys and Oath Keepers were convicted of seditious conspiracy.

The conservative Moms for Liberty organization has gained notoriety in recent years as it has fought to censor information in public schools, particularly surrounding books about racial or sexual topics. The group, which has worked arm in arm with GOP figures like Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, also has ties to the Proud Boys.

Two weeks ago, Trump wooed members of the group at a Moms for Liberty summit in Washington, D.C.

Recently, the group has suffered a number of electoral losses in school board races, as well as a colorful scandal involving one of their founders sending her husband to troll bars for women to bring home for sex.
