Injury update on Yves Bissouma and Richarlison ahead of busy week for Spurs
Tottenham Hotspur duo, Yves Bissouma and Richarlison, were two key players who missed Spurs’ North London derby through injury with the pair’s expected return dates now revealed ahead of a busy month for Postecoglou’s men.
Spurs have a hectic few weeks of fixtures
Despite welcoming back key players Micky Van De Ven and Dominic Solanke from injury ahead of the North London derby, Postecoglou was handed a fresh injury issue with Yves Bissouma returning from international duty with what has been described by Spurs as a groin tweak. (Evening Standard)
Bissouma joined Richarlison on the injury table with the Brazilian striker only picking up 25 minutes of action this season before being sidelined yet again.
Ange Postecoglou will be keen to have the pair available for selection as soon as possible with his side looking to quickly improve upon their concerning start to the season.
The next few weeks could prove pivotal for Tottenham’s season with Spurs having to manage six games in just three weeks.
Bissouma’s return to action is clearer than Richarlison’s
Tottenham have two games in the coming week, travelling to the CBS Arena to face Championship Coventry City in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday, then hosting Brentford in the Premier League on Saturday.
The Evening Standard has predicted when Richarlison and Bissouma could return for Spurs.
The media outlet suggest that Bissouma could miss Tottenham’s trip to Coventry but be available for Saturday’s clash with Brentford after Postecoglou confirmed the 27-year-old’s injury was not ‘serious’.
Richarlison’s date of return is less clear and more worrying with Postecoglou confirming that the Brazilian’s return would be “still a while, mate, yeah” and that “he’s in rehab and we are going to take it a bit conservative with him”.
The former Everton man’s return date is therefore deemed unknown by the Evening Standard with Richarlison himself even responding to a Tottenham fan who asked, “can you please gift us and be fit” by simply stating “I am trying”. (Instagram)
Spurs Web opinion
While Bissouma’s return will be welcomed as the Malian can offer Tottenham more depth in midfield, I don’t believe that he should walk straight back into Postecoglou’s starting eleven and Archie Gray should instead be given a chance.
Bissouma’s performances improved slightly since his laughing gas ban, but his performances still lacked focus at times and Spurs may need to rethink the holding midfield role that is currently proving an issue.
Gray is ideal for the role with his progressive drives with the ball and pinpoint passing that he showed at Leeds United making him a perfect fit for Postecoglou’s system, the teenager should be given a chance against Coventry at least.
