Pleats Chair

Pleats Chair is a minimalist chair created by Helsinki-based designer Didi NG Wing Yin. After earning a Master of Arts in Interior Architecture from Aalto University in 2023, Didi has specialized in woodworking, creating both sculptural and functional furniture. His approach emphasizes the inherent qualities of wood, aiming to explore its natural essence through conceptual thinking, experimental surface treatments, and carving techniques. The Pleats Chair, part of Didi’s Wood Pleats collection, uses a brush technique to give the wood a smooth, fabric-like appearance. The horizontal grain of the wood creates a ripple effect, evoking the surface of a calm lake. Its gentle curves and soft tapers reflect a design inspired by the tranquility of nature, capturing the simplicity and natural beauty that defines Didi’s work.
