Media says Spurs just sold a player who doesn’t even need to run to play well
Giovani Lo Celso is the toast of the Seville-based press after netting a brace in his first start of the season for Real Betis.
Lo Celso returned to Betis this summer
Lo Celso sealed a return to Betis on transfer deadline day, five years on from leaving the La Liga club to join Tottenham in 2019.
The midfielder’s spell at the North London club proved to be a major disappointment, with the 28-year-old never appearing quite at home in the Premier League.
It did not come as much of a surprise when he eventually sealed a return to Betis and the midfielder has now made the perfect start to his second spell at the club.
The Argentine got the nod to play as the number ten in the clash against Getafe on Wednesday and he delivered in style, netting twice to help his side register a 2-1 win.
Lo Celso netted his first from the spot in the 61st minute, sending the goalkeeper the wrong way before his powerful deflected shot from the edge of the box flew into the back of the net around 14 minutes later.
Lo Celso runs the show without even running
Diario de Sevilla are thrilled at how Lo Celso has started his second spell at the club, suggesting that the player has now returned to his natural habitat.
They saw that the former Spurs man displayed ‘so much quality’ on the pitch, showcasing exactly what Manuel Pellegrini’s men were lacking.
The publication adds about Lo Celso that ‘you don’t need to run’ if you are as good technically as he is, claiming that simply too much was asked of him physically at Spurs.
Spurs Web Opinion
Lo Celso just never seemed like a great fit for the Premier League, and he picked up too many injuries when playing at the sort of tempo and intensity required in England.
La Liga football, on the other hand, suits the midfielder’s attributes perfectly. Betis have bagged themselves a real bargain this summer.
