Legendary Boxing Promoter Don King Is 'Not Doing Well'

At 93 years old, legendary boxing promoter Don King has had a storied career working with some of the biggest names in the sport's history, including heavyweight champ Mike Tyson. But according to Tyson himself, King's health has been in decline recently.

Tyson stopped by Cam'ron and Mase's It Is What It Is podcast on Sept. 20 and gave an update on King's health. 

"You know, Don is not doing well right now," the boxer said. "He's probably close to 100 years old. He's not doing well."

He recounted a call he had with King that confirmed the hatchet from their tumultuous falling out decades ago has been buried. "We spoke, and at the end of the game, we love each other," he remembered. 

According to TMZ, King is coming off a 10-day stay in the hospital and received a blood transfusion and is now at home recovering. Over the years, he's worked with boxing legends including Muhammad Ali, George Foreman, Evander Holyfield, Joe Frazier, Julio Cesar Chavez, Roberto Duran, and Bernard Hopkins. 

Back in 1998, Tyson sued King for $100 million claiming the promoter cheated him out of millions, eventually settling out of court for $14 million in 2004. Tyson's case followed other lawsuits brought by famous boxers over the years including Ali and Larry Holmes. Iron Mike cut ties with King but rekindled their friendship years later. 

When looking back on the situation, Tyson prefers to view it as a good lesson in business. 

"I believe Don King pretty much educated me," Tyson said. "That will never happen again."

"It's an experience, so that won't happen again," he continued, saying he knows now what to look out for if confronted with something similar. "Now you go in life with an experience so that's not gonna happen again. Maybe something else but that's not gonna happen again."

Just last month, King expressed excitement about Tyson's return to boxing for his highly anticipated match against Jake Paul, now set for Nov. 15.
