Police chase ends in fatal shooting in Massapequa: NCPD
MASSAPEQUA, Long Island (PIX11) – Nassau County police fatally shot a man accused of repeatedly fleeing police and sending multiple people to the hospital, according to Nassau County Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder.
The driver was first chased by NYPD officers just after 11 p.m. Friday in Queens, police said. The driver fled into Nassau County, where local police first tried to stop him near Merrick Avenue and Sunrise Highway, Ryder said.
The driver fled again, slamming into two police cars in the process, Ryder said. The driver crashed into a third police car before driving the wrong way on Sunrise Highway and striking a fourth car, sending a civilian to the hospital, Ryder said.
Eventually, the driver lost control of the vehicle near Hicksville Road and Sunrise Highway, Ryder said.
“Officers got out of the car to take control and arrest the individual, that individual did not comply, there was a shooting that occurred and that individual died,” Ryder said.
New York Attorney General Letitia James is investigating the shooting.
