Cowboys Rally Late But Lose to Utah

Oklahoma State's football team rallied with a 16-point fourth quarter, but lost to #12 Utah 22-19 at Boone Pickens Stadium in Stillwater on Saturday.

The Utes dominated the time of possession, holding the ball for 42:26 to OSU's 17:34.

Utah running back Micah Bernard had 182 yards on 25 carries, while OSU's Ollie Gordon was held to just 42 rushing yards on 11 carries.

Utah outgained OSU 456 to 285 in total yards.

OSU got the ball to start the game and did not gain a yard and had to punt.

Utah moved into OSU territory on their opening possession, but on 4th and 2 from the OSU 32, Isaac Wilson's pass was broken up by Lyrik Rawls and the Cowboys took over on downs.

OSU got a 25-yard pass from Alan Bowman to Rashod Owens on their ensuing possession, but the drive bogged down and they had to settle for a 23-yard field goal by Logan Ward to take a 3-0 lead with 8:43 left in the first quarter.

Utah gave the ball back on their next possession, as Wilson had a deep pass intercepted by Trey Rucker at the Cowboys' 41-yard line.

OSU had to punt back to Utah.

The Utes moved it into OSU territory, but sacks by Kendal Daniels and Xavier Ross forced Utah to settle for a 43-yard field goal by Cole Becker on the first snap of the second quarter to tie the game 3-3.

After forcing another OSU punt, Utah put together the first touchdown drive of the game, going 64 yards in 11 plays, with Brant Kuithe scoring on a one yard run out of the wildcat formation to put the Utes up 10-3 with 7:25 to play in the second quarter.

OSU moved the ball on their ensuing possession, with Bowman passing to De'Zhaun Stribling for 22 and to Talyn Shettron for 21.

The Cowboys had to settle for a 46-yard field goal attempt from Logan Ward and he missed wide right with 5:32 to play in the first half.

Utah moved the ball again on their next possession, but Micah Bernard fumbled after making a catch, as Cam Smith forced the ball loose and Nick Martin recovered for the Cowboys at their own 30-yard line.

OSU gave the ball back three plays later, as Bowman was intercepted by Alaka'i Gilman at the OSU 37-yard line with 44 seconds left in the first half.

Two plays later, Utah gave it back, as Trey Rucker intercepted Wilson at the OSU 9-yard line with 20 seconds left in the first half.

Utah dominated the time of possession in the first half, with 20:07 to 9:53 for OSU.

Both teams had to punt on their first possession of the second half.

On Utah's second possession, Wilson scrambled on third down for a gain of 48 yards to the OSU 22-yard line.

The Utes had to settle for a 36-yard field goal attempt from Becker, but he missed it wide left and it stayed 10-3 Utah with 8:15 to play in the third quarter.

OSU had to punt on their next possession, and Utah responded by extending their lead.

On the first play of the drive, Micah Bernard gained 62 yards on a run to the OSU 27-yard line.

That set up a 38-yard field goal by Becker to make it 13-3 Utes with 2:39 to play in the third quarter.

For the second time in three second half possessions, OSU went three downs and out and had to punt.

Utah then extended their lead, getting a 44-yard field goal by Becker to make it 16-3 with 11:29 to play.

OSU then had another three-and-out possession, their third in four tries in the second half.

Utah punted back to the Cowboys, who started their fifth possession of the second half at their own 10-yard line.

For the fourth time in five second half possessions, OSU had another three-and-out, gaining just two yards, and had to punt again.

Utah punted it back to OSU, and the Utes put the game away in the next two plays.

Bowman was intercepted on a deep pass by Elijah Davis at the OSU 45-yard line.

The Utes then turned it into points in one play, with Wilson finding Brant Kuithe for a touchdown.

Wilson was 17-for-29 passing for 207 yards.

The two point conversion failed and it was 22-3 Utah with 6:21 left.

OSU's offense finally got going on their next possession, with Bowman passing to Stribling for 22 yards, then found Brennan Presley for a 28-yard touchdown.

Bowman passed to Presley again for a two-point conversion and it was 22-11 Utah with 5:37 to play.

Utah had to punt on their next possession, giving OSU some hope with 3:16 to play.

The Cowboys went 69 yards in seven plays, with Bowman passing to Rashod Owens for a 9-yard touchdown with 1:47 to play.

OSU went for two points and Bowman's pass was incomplete, but pass interference was called on Utah and the Cowboys got a second chance.

Bowman then passed to Presley for the two-point conversion to cut Utah's lead to 22-19.

Bowman was 16-for-33 for 206 yards, while Garret Rangel was just 3-for-11 for 31 yards in the first few possessions of the second half.

After a failed onside kick by OSU, Utah took over at the Cowboys' 46-yard line.

Utah gave Micah Bernard the ball three straight times and he got a first down to clinch the win.

This was the second meeting between the two teams, with OSU winning the first meeting in 1945.

OSU falls to 3-1 on the season.

The Cowboys play at Kansas State next Saturday, with the kickoff time to be announced.
