Chennai: Ravichandran Ashwin did the star turn at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Sunday with a six-wicket haul that propelled India to an emphatic 280-run win over Bangladesh in the first Test against Bangladesh. Chasing a mammoth target of 515 in the fourth innings, none of the Bangladeshi batters sans Najmul Hossain Shanto (82) could stand in front of Ashwin as the veteran off-spinner went home with a 6/88 to help his team record 179th Test victory in history. Ashwin had also scored a century in the first innings – his sixth in the longest format of the game.

37 – Ravichandran Ashwin recorded his 37th five-wicket haul and is joint-second most in the world. He is now tied with Late Shane Warne and is only behind Muthiah Muralidaran’s 67.
