Soapland’s richlist: Who is the wealthiest character in Emmerdale, EastEnders and Coronation Street?

SOAPLAND is a funny old place where money means very little but there are still some very rich soap characters.

From Emmerdale where Kim Tate rules the roost to the surprisingly rich nurse Sonia in EastEnders, while Coronation Street appears to have some hidden millions of their own.

But who is the richest soap character around? We take a look…

Ruby Fox-Miligan – millions

Has Ruby just become the richest soap character in soapland?[/caption]

The newest member of the soap richlist is Ruby Fox-Miligan.

Born into wealth and a life of untold luxury, she gave it all up for rough round the edges – and also straight through – Caleb Miligan as a teenager.

The pair have built a nice life together with enough money for some very nice luxuries like a Bentley or two.

But now that her estranged mother Helen is dead, Ruby’s inherited a literal fortune, and while it’s not known how much it is exactly, it’s safe to say she’s got millions coming to her.

Kim Tate £30m

The original soap superbitch deserves every penny of her vast fortune

The reigning queen of soapland’s richlist, Kim Tate is filthy rich.

She originally stole millions from her husband Frank Tate’s business empire and spent the next 30 years growing it into a sizeable fortune of her own.

Now she’s sitting pretty on at least tens of millions with business interests across the world.

But her pride of joy remains Home Farm and it’s frankly massive estate that now includes a huge waterfall. Priceless!

Ruby Allen £10m

Ruby’s always grinning – and it’s no surprise given her bank balance

She’s not even back in Walford just yet but Ruby is one of the wealthiest people in Albert Square.

She inherited her dad Johnny Allen’s fortune, and parts of his criminal empire.

Ruby is easily the wealthest Walford resident and possibly also one of the most dim given she keeps returning where no-one likes her.

Gabby Thomas £4m

Gabby has about £4m in the bank and deserves precisely none of it[/caption]

Vicar’s daughter Gabby is in a strange position of thinking herself a super businesswoman and protege of Kim Tate.

But her £4m fortune isn’t her own – and nor did she get it herself.

It came down to her grandmother Diane Sugden who negotiated with Kim Tate to slice a chunk of her fortune off for Gabby and her son Thomas Tate.

Still, Gabby spent it wisely on an outdoor pursuit centre that also serves pizzas. And only killed two customers so far.

Suki and Nish Panesar £4m

BBC
They may be at war but they’re a formidable financial force together[/caption]

The gruesome twosome might be busy taking chunks out of each other but they’re intertwined more than anyone realises.

They both own half of the family businesses and homes meaning the Panesars are a financial force to be reckoned with.

Debbie Webster £3m

ITV
Debbie oozes money but nothing else thanks to the chemist[/caption]

Corrie isn’t exactly littered with millionaires and Debbie’s had her own financial troubles, but she is the reigning money queen of the cobbles.

When she returned – after 30 years – Debbie was a successful property developer with a portfolio worthy of Sarah Beeny.

Then she lost it all, and then she took Ray Crosby’s empire from him and promptly nearly lost that.

Now she’s got her own flat somewhere, her home abroad and her beloved Chariot Square Hotel making her the richest resident in Weatherfield.

Jack Branning £3m

A humble police detective, Jack Branning probably wouldn’t be your first thoughts for Walford’s rich list but here we are.

His property portfolio sees him own a block of flats and his house in Walford, meaning he’s got an easy £3m right there.

Ian Beale £2m

BBC
Ian Beale’s got a nice bit of cash in his back pocket[/caption]

A chippy, a pie and mash restaurant and a house in Albert Square has put Ian Beale firmly into the millionaire class.

But with sort of wife Cindy cheating on him with her former stepson, it doesn’t seem like his good fortune will last long.

So he could be back on the streets by the 40th anniversary.

Sharon Watts £2m

Sharon is Mrs Moneybags herself

Sharon’s been almost bankrupt, she’s been rich, and she’s bizarrely now a boxing gym owner.

But one thing’s for sure – she’s got enough money to buy a nice house in Albert Square, said gym and keep herself in new clothes and hair cuts.

Phil Mitchell £2m

BBC
Phil’s got quite a lot of cash – very little of it legal[/caption]

It’s almost impossible to work out Phil’s true net worth with his extensive criminal empire propping him up.

There always seems to be a spare £100k just when he needs it, cash of course.

That and his house, Peggy’s, The Arches and the villa in Portugal means Phil is one of the richest men in Walford.

Carla Connor £1m

She’s the current owner – or at least half, things change so much these days – of knicker factory Underworld.

And while in the real world a back street factory focusing on frillies might not net you millions, in Corrie that puts her at near the top of the tree.

Sonia Fowler £1m

BBC
Sonia Fowler inherited a million pound house from Dot Branning[/caption]

Poor little trumpet playing nurse Sonia could never hope to own her own house in Albert Square – not until Dot died and left it to her anyway.

Now she’s the proud owner of Dot’s nicotine-tinged abode, net curtains and all.

Dev Alahan £1m

ITV
Dev’s got a secret fortune with all his businesses[/caption]

Now the shopkeeper extraordinare may have undergone a few changes over the years with debts and such but he’s still got a few businesses to keep him going.

As well as his kebab shop and corner shop, Dev’s still got his little empire of businesses across Weatherfield which will net him a cool million at least.

Unless he loses it all again…
