Driver plunges down ravine off I-84 near Hood River
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- A driver was rescued after their vehicle plunged into a ravine off of I-84 near Hood River on Saturday.
Officers responded to the area of milepost 63 on I-84 westbound on reports a vehicle had driven off the highway and crashed down a ravine.
On arrival, they found the vehicle had overturned on its top and fallen around 150 feet.
Hood River police, fire crews, paramedics, Oregon State Police, as well as the Crag Rats - a nonprofit volunteer rescue team based in the area - spent around an hour rescuing the driver from the vehicle.
The driver was then taken to a nearby hospital.
Investigators later determined the driver was impaired, and cited them for DUII and reckless driving.
