AP Poll: Longhorns remain No. 1, Oklahoma falls 6 spots after loss to Tennessee
AUSTIN (KXAN) — Texas strengthened its hold on the No. 1 spot in the Associated Press college football top 25 rankings following a 51-3 win over Louisiana-Monroe.
The news organization released the latest rankings Sunday with the Longhorns receiving 44 first-place votes and 1,527 points overall. Texas received 35 first-place votes last week.
The top four teams remained unchanged — Georgia, Ohio State and Alabama followed the Longhorns — and Tennessee moved up a spot to No. 5 after a 25-15 win over Oklahoma. The Sooners tumbled six spots to No. 21 after the home loss in their Southeastern Conference debut.
Ole Miss, Miami, Oregon, Penn State and Utah round out the top 10. The Utes opened Big 12 play with a 22-19 win over Oklahoma State sending the Cowboys down six spots to No. 20.
Michigan got back on track with a 27-24 win over Southern California to move up six spots to No. 12. The Wolverines' only loss this season is to Texas. The Trojans dropped two spots to No. 13 with the loss.
Texas A&M moved up one spot to No. 24 after a 26-20 win over Bowling Green at Kyle Field.
Kansas State dropped 10 spots for No. 23 following a 38-9 loss to BYU. The win vaulted the Cougars into the rankings at No. 22. Boise State entered at No. 25.
Texas remained No. 2 in the USA Today coaches poll behind Georgia.
