‘Deliberately cruel’ rage furious MAFS UK fans as controversial groom weds single mum amid ‘abuse’ allegations
MARRIED At First Sight UK viewers hit out at the E4 show after a man acccused of abuse was paired with a single mum.
Alex Henry, from Birmingham, came under fire from a group of women who clubbed together to petition Channel 4 to axe him.
They called for his scenes to be cut, but Channel 4 confirmed he would not be removed despite acknowledging the serious allegations earlier this month.
Tonight the show aired his wedding to lonely mum-of-two Holly who lives in Huddersfield.
Alex, 28, told the cameras before the big day: “In the past I’ve played the field, I’ve had fun, I’ve never been in love.”
Alex went on to describe his perfect partner as a “curvy brunette” and someone who “keeps me on my toes”.
As the experts discussed the match, Mel Schilling insisted: “Physically, they are exactly what the other is looking for”.
However, viewers pointed out that Alex doesn’t want kids.
One said on X, formerly Twitter: “Once again, these experts are way off the mark with Alex and Holly, THE GEEZER DOESN’T WANT SOMEONE WHO HAS CHILDREN!!! Why do they do it?
“Surely there’s got to be performance related reviews because these guys are useless.”
One more echoed: “Honestly these experts haven’t got a clue? That, or they are deliberately being cruel.
“It’s getting more and more about ratings not the romance.”
Another added after reading The Sun’s exclusive story: “They’ve really gotta look into these contestants more thoroughly. Can’t even be happy for Holly.”
And aother said: “The experts matching Holly with a man who would rather be with a childless woman is a big no no! That’s something that can’t be compromised on and should’ve been prioritised in the match making process.”
When contacted by The Sun, Channel 4 said that a criminal record (DBS) check was carried out on Alex and it came back clear.
On the day of the wedding, Alex told the cameras: “Today is one of the biggest days in my life.
“Everyone who means something to me is here. The only piece that is missing is for me to find my soulmate and my happy ever after.”
The pair then met at the altar to huge cheers from their friends and family, many of them crying at the emotional scenes.
After the ceremony, Alex said in his VT: “She’s an amazing girl, exactly what I asked for”.
Holly, a beautician, echoed: “I do feel a connection … But I do need to tell Alex I have two children”.
She later broke the news to Alex who wasn’t honest about his feelings to her.
He said: “OK, we’ll see what happens”.
But he admitted to producers: “It is a bit of a shock that Holly has children, I wasn’t expecting it. I don’t know how I feel about it.”
Alex first appeared in the series in episode one and had a row with Charlie who questioned his motives.
Alex spoke about a potential wife swap, which raised huge alarm bells with the rest of the group.
A Channel 4 spokesperson told The Sun: “The welfare of our contributors is of paramount importance and, as such, we take all allegations of unacceptable behaviour seriously.
“We are aware of an allegation against a Married at First Sight UK 2024 contributor and we have responded directly to those who came to us with that allegation.
“As part of our responsibility to safeguard our contributors, everyone taking part in MAFSUK undergoes a rigorous vetting process, involving a criminal record check and multiple psychological evaluations, before they can be cleared to take part.
“The DBS (criminal record) check carried out on the contributor raised in the allegation was returned clear. We cast contributors based on the information we are legally able to access and we continue to review this process to ensure checks are as thorough as legally possible.”
