Heung-min Son reveals how Spurs deal with distractions and outside noise
Son Heung-min confesses that he and his Tottenham teammates manage to block out the outside distractions and noise, and remain solely focused on getting better as a side.
Tottenham have their fair share of vocal critics
There has been a lot said and written about Tottenham over the last few weeks, with many doubting the side’s approach and suggesting they need to change some of its principles.
However, the noise coming out of Hotspur Way has been one of calm and persisting with their current approach, and that is exactly what the players did against Brentford on Saturday, with the Bees unable to cope with a wave after wave of attack that Tottenham threw at them.
That belief comes from Ange Postecoglou, who is evidently a man who doubles down on his hyper-attacking approach when things do not go his way, and the Spurs captain admitting that what is being said on the outside does not infiltrate the bubble at Hotspur Way.
Sonny says Spurs ignore the outside noise
The 32-year-old told journalist Gun Lee (for Sport Chosun 21/09/24): “There was never someone in our team who distracted us when we were working hard and training hard.
“We’re playing for a great team, and we’re playing and battling against great teams. There has been a lot of [outside] efforts to distract and split our team, but we should never let ourselves be affected by that.
“The most important thing is to keep doing what we’ve been doing, to train hard and work hard for victory on the pitch. I’ve been a professional for a long enough time to know that it’s always the same story; I have no intention to let myself become distracted. So I think it’s important for me to set an example to the younger players so that they can also battle distraction.
“At the end of the day, there will always be someone distracting you. Players should never forget their efforts and their achievements.
“If you start doubting about what you’ve been working hard on as a professional player, it not only hurts you but also the team. In this situation, you have to always firmly trust yourself. I trust in this team firmly. It will be important to battle and get through this situation.”
Spurs Web Opinion
In the past, we have had reactive managers such as Jose Mourinho, who would constantly tweak things and change his approach when certain things go wrong.
However, Postecoglou is completely different from that and believes very deeply in this hyper-attacking approach. That kind of unshakable belief from the top will undoubtedly filter through to the players.
