Damning quotes about Trump from his own former officials revealed by New York Times

The New York Times has written numerous editorials making the case against electing former President Donald Trump to another term in office, but on Thursday the paper decided to let the words of former Trump officials and associates speak for themselves.

In all, the Times compiled 90 quotes from people who have spent time in Trump's orbit and they paint a picture of a man who is equal parts selfish and mentally unstable.

Former Trump Attorney General Bill Barr, for example, described Trump as someone who "will always put his own interests and gratifying his own ego ahead" of the national interest.

Former Deputy Director of National Intelligence Cliff Sims said that "loyalty was mostly a one-way street" for Trump, while former chief of staff Mick Mulvaney simply described Trump as "a terrible human being."

Former Trump national security adviser John Bolton said that Trump's temperament "renders coherent foreign policy almost unattainable."

The Times also cites quotes from former Education Secretary Betsy DeVos about the former president growing "increasingly erratic and unnerving," former Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats about Trump not knowing "the difference between the truth and a lie," and former Defense Secretary Mark Esper saying that he regards Trump as "a threat to democracy."

And former Vice President Mike Pence, whom Trump made the target of violent rioters after he refused to go along with his scheme to block the certification of the 2020 election, gets the following quote featured about Trump: "Anyone that puts themselves over the Constitution should never be president."
