Hurricane Helene slams into Mexico submerging Cancun resorts in torrential rain

Hurricane Helene, intensifying from a tropical storm, struck Mexico’s coastal state of Quintana Roo on Sept. 25, bringing heavy rain and strong winds to Cancun and surrounding areas. The National Hurricane Center said that the storm would bring “life-threatening storm surge, damaging winds and flooding rains” as it heads toward the US Gulf Coast.
