Lawsuit to restart congestion pricing in NYC moves ahead

NEW YORK (PIX11) -- Supporters of congestion pricing are claiming a victory outside court in New York City on Friday.

State Supreme Court Judge Arthur Engoron denied a motion by lawyers for the state and Gov. Kathy Hochul. They were asking for the lawsuits to be dismissed.

A group of riders and advocates filed suit after the governor paused the plan in June. Congestion pricing would have charged most vehicles $15 for travel south of 60th Street in Manhattan.

The money would fund transit improvements.

The state could appeal the judge's motion.

The next step could be a ruling from the judge on the governor's authority to pause the plan.
