St Andrew's. (9 replies)
Well, what a great time to be Blues. Yet although I know that to achieve our potential and the massive ambitions of our brilliant new owners ,we will have to move to a new stadium I confess that when the final whistle goes on our last game at St Andrew's it will be so emotional.
I admit I love the old place and all the memories it holds for most of my life.Back in the 60's on the terraces with my now long gone Dad and hearing tales from him standing there in previous years as a lad with my Granddad. Then on to those massive crowds stood on the Tilton in the early 70's watching Trev and the Bob's.Who can forget queueing all night in the snow around the ground in 75 to get a semi final ticket.
Of course we had to suffer a lot of dark days through the 80's but by the 90's I was going down with my lad and we came through to get back to the top flight. What a magic night we had in that semi final against West Ham as well as the Enckleman game amongst other great wins over villa.
To be fair after the fall from grace under the Chinese and the state the team and ground got into in recent years with the stands half shut and the whole place looking so bad who could have dreamed of what was to come with the present owners. If I'm honest when I look around the stadium now a bit of me wishes that they had decided to stay and refurbish the old main stand to the same standard to give us a 40,000 capacity without moving, but that's just me being selfish because, you see, St Andrew's has always been a massive part of my life right up to the present day when I go with my wife, son and Grandkids
So there you are ,I think the old place has a unique atmosphere and although I know we have to move on it will break my heart a little bit on the day that St Andrew's finally comes to the end of the road
