Man kills three in Shanghai stabbing rampage (VIDEO)
Police believe the assailant was taking out his personal financial grievances on supermarket customers
Three people have been killed and 15 wounded in a knife attack at a supermarket in Shanghai, police said on Tuesday. The incident happened just before China’s week-long National Day holiday.
Officers arrived shortly after receiving a report of the incident at 9:47 pm on Monday. The suspect was arrested and identified as Lin Moumou, a 37-year-old male, according to city police.
Eighteen people were taken to the hospital, of whom three succumbed to their injuries. The lives of the other 15 are not in danger, the police report noted. According to preliminary findings, Lin flew into a rage due to “personal financial reasons.”
In CCTV footage, a man can be seen walking through a supermarket with a knife in each hand, while customers scream and try to flee.
China maintains a strict ban on civilian firearms, so outbursts of deadly violence tend to involve knives.
