Tulsa PD arrest woman on Airport tarmac for DUI
TULSA, Okla. (KFOR) - Authorities in Tulsa says a woman has been arrested for Felony Aggravated DUI after Air Traffic Control reported a possible drunk driver obstructing the runway.
Officers responded to Jones Riverside Airport around 6:00 p.m. on Saturday after Air Traffic Control reported a silver Nissan Pathfinder was parked on a taxiway, blocking the path of an airplane that was attempting to land.
When officers arrived on the scene Bonnie Campbell was found inside the SUV and was taken into custody after showing numerous signs of intoxication, according to police.
A pilot told police while taxiing his airplane from the runway he came upon Campbell, who was stopped in the middle of the ramp. The pilot says he got out of his airplane to get Campbell out the way and upon approaching the vehicle, he said he saw beer cans and could smell alcohol, so he reached into the SUV, turned it off, took the keys, and called 911.
Police say Campbell had a blood alcohol level of.34 on the state's breathalyzer test, more than four times the legal limit. According to Campbell, she claimed she was visiting family who have a hangar at the airport.
Additionally, officers found 18 empty beer cans inside Campbell's SUV, along with a cardboard box of Coors Light, an empty six-pack container, and a garbage bag full of other beer cans.
Campbell was arrested for Felony Aggravated DUI, then taken to the hospital for medical treatment.
