CAREER MANAGEMENT: AGENCIES HOLD INAUGURAL MULTILATERAL STAKEHOLDERS MEETING

The Ministry of Establishments and Training, in conjunction with the Public Service Office and Civil Service Commission, recently held a multilateral stakeholders meeting on career management at the Secretariat Alausa.

The meeting, which drew together Directors of Administration and Human Resources from different Ministries, Departments and Agencies, was organised to address critical issues affecting career progression in the state’s public service and develop a framework to tackle these challenges effectively.

In her opening remarks, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Establishments and Training, Mrs. Olubusola Abidakun stated that the meeting marked a significant step towards enhancing the State public service.
 
She emphasised the importance of the gathering, noting that issues and resolutions would be documented and implemented.

Mrs. Abidakun encouraged knowledge sharing amongst officers, stating that no one was an island of knowledge. She added that officers must learn from one another to effectively discharge official duties and enhance service delivery.

Whilst commending everyone present at the event, she stated that resolutions reached would be cascaded to various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) for effective implementation.

According to her, “The Lagos State Government was committed to investing in its workforce and this initiative demonstrated government dedication to promoting a productive and efficient public service”, Mrs. Abidakun concluded.

The Permanent Secretary of the Public Service Office, Mrs. Sunkanmi Oyegbola advised officers to be proactive in their roles and responsibilities. “As public servants, it is essential to take ownership of your duties and strive for excellence”, she stated.

Discussion at the meeting covered a wide range of issues relating to career management, including Career Growth Pathways, Performance Management Systems, Training and Development, Work-Life balance, amongst others.

The stakeholders’ meeting is scheduled to be held quarterly to ensure continuous progress and improvement in the public service.
