Disney+ drama starring Golden Globe nominated actress axed after two series as she hits out at surprise move
A DISNEY+ series starring a critically acclaimed actress has been axed after two series.
Comedy-drama UnPrisoned launched in 2023, with Golden Globe nominee Kerry Washington in the lead role.
Kerry, 47, portrayed Paige Alexander, a marriage and family therapist with a large Instagram following.
Taking to social media, the star shared that UnPrisoned would not be returning for a third series.
She wrote, in part: “Ladies & Gents, that is a wrap on Unprisoned.
“This beautiful show that we poured so much of our hearts and souls into is unfortunately not coming back for a Season 3.
“But I wanted you to hear it from me because while we’re super duper disappointed, we’re also crazy deeply grateful.
“Making this show was a labor of love. And we know that so many of you found connection and healing with The Alexander Family – and that their impact will live on!”
Kerry added: “We are soooooo grateful to the entire cast & crew – who are not only brilliant and hardworking, but a JOY to work with!
“Thank you to our fellow producers and all our writers and directors for leading and guiding and inspiring us.
“Thank you to ABCS, Hulu & Onyx for giving us a creative home.
“And most importantly, we are grateful to YOU ALL – for watching, laughing, crying, yelling, dancing, eye-rolling, cheering (and all of the things between) along with us each episode.
“It was such a blessing.”
One disappointed fan wrote: “Why????? Ridiculous how the good ones don’t get an opportunity to return.”
Another commented: “This show was so good! So funny! So real! So relatable! Can we power up and move to another streaming service? Transfer somewhere?”
While a third remarked: “I.Am.Hurt. This was such a good show!!! I felt so seen watching this.”

Delroy Lindo co-starred as Paige’s father Edwin, who had been imprisoned for 17 years.
Meanwhile, Faly Rakotohavana played the role of Finn, Paige’s teenage son.
The show’s second (and final) series, comprised of eight episodes, dropped on July 17.
