Tompkins Square Halloween Dog Parade lets the dogs out for its 34th year

EAST VILLAGE, Manhattan (PIX11) – Calling all the dogs! Pups will run the park for the spooky fur-filled tradition in the East Village.

The annual Tompkins Square Halloween Dog Parade is back for its 34th year on Saturday, Oct. 19.

Hundreds of pups donning their most fetching costumes will take to the streets from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. After parading through the park, the best-dressed pooches will compete for “Best in Show.”

The beloved parade was almost derailed last year because of park construction that made it difficult for organizers to obtain permits. However, public pressure helped put the show back on track.

Organizers say this free event celebrates not only the spirit of the city but also the bond between humans and their dogs.
