'They are coming after me!' Ted Cruz issues desperate plea for help in re-election bid

What is going on in Texas’ tightening Senate race is exactly what Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) would like to know after conceding Tuesday night that he is “getting swamped” in his reelection battle – “if they take me out, they take the entire country.”

“There's no doubt Texas is a battleground today,” Cruz said during a Newsmax interview Tuesday where he pleaded for help from viewers. “I need your help, please go to TedCruz.org, TedCruz.org and contribute because we are getting swamped by Chuck Schumer and George Soros, and as I said, they have put a bullseye on the state of Texas.”

Cruz was peppered with questions during the interview about his campaign in the traditionally reliable red state that hasn’t elected a Democrat statewide since 1994. He eked out a narrow win with less than three points in his 2018 reelection bid against former Rep. Beto O’Rourke, who rode his wave of Democratic fame to run for president and governor, both unsuccessfully.

Cruz suggested on Tuesday that “relentless attack ads” for the last three months from his opponent, Rep. Colin Allred, have affected his sagging poll numbers. “I just went on TV a couple of weeks ago,” he said, admitting that multiple polls in the last three weeks show Allred closing the gap between them to as little as one point.

“They are coming after me with everything they got,” he added.

Cruz went on to say that he was “absolutely” concerned that illegal immigrants would vote in the election.

“Why are Democrats allowing this invasion? …They look 11.5 million illegal immigrants, and they see future Democrat voters, some, they hope, will vote illegally in this election. The rest they plan to grant amnesty and give them voting rights in some future election. Either way, it is dangerous.”

“It is an absolute neck-and-neck fight right now.”
