GM Zenon Franco Ocampos passes away

A sad news for chess – GM Zenon Franco Ocampos passed away in Santiago de Compostela, Spain, at the age of 68. He was a strong chess player, a motor for chess in his country Paraguay, renowned book author, a FIDE Senior trainer. In the 1982 Chess Olympiad at Lucerne, he won the gold medal at board one by scoring 11 of 13. In the 1990 Chess Olympiad at Novi Sad, he shared first place at board one with 9 points in 12 games.

Zenon Franco Ocampos was the first Grandmaster to collaborate with Chessdom.com. Just a few days after installing the contact form in 2007, he sent a message, “Dear chess fiends: I am GM Zenón Franco, from Paraguay, I write a chess column in newspaper ABC from Asunción, Paraguay. It appears also in some webs. I would like to use some of your photos for my next article, please tell me if it is possible.
Thank you.” From that point Zenon Franco actively cooperated with Chessdom, providing local news and Grandmaster analysis, with the news exchange peaking around the year 2013.

Zenon Franco Ocampos made 724 publications for ABC, with the last one being this September 18.
