Red Sox’s Jarren Duran Earned ‘Highlight’ By Finishing Season Healthy
BOSTON -- Jarren Duran flashed great potential in 2023 before a toe injury at Yankee Stadium late in the summer ended his Red Sox season.
Rehab from that injury continued deeper into the offseason, leaving Duran with a late start. You would never know it based on the season he put together for the Red Sox in 2024. He dominated the game physically, taking over with his legs and missing just two games, coming from a suspension, drawing praise from Alex Cora for posting so consistently.
The 2024 All-Star Game MVP hit .285 with 21 home runs and an OPS over .800 while leading baseball with 48 doubles and 14 triples. Duran values his team's wins or losses over those stats, though he appreciated the chance to finish the season healthy for the Red Sox based on how 2023 ended.
"Honestly, it took me back when I was thinking about it," Duran told reporters at Fenway Park on Sunday. "I didn't even get to this point last year because I got hurt. It was super cool to be able to be here and finish the season on a high note. That was probably one of the highlights."
Duran plays full speed ahead night in and night out and admitted he will have to find ways to channel that during an important offseason for the Red Sox.
"I'm not sure what I'm going to be able to do with myself since I don't have to show up every day, hit in a cage, work out and play baseball," Duran said. "It's going to be nice to have a couple days off of my feet. We'll see how much I drive myself crazy when I don't have something to do."
