Daniel Day-Lewis Comes Out of Retirement for His Son’s Movie
Daniel Day-Lewis announced that he was done acting after 2017’s Phantom Thread, but Daniel Dad-Lewis can make an exception. The three-time Oscar winner is emerging from retirement to star in Anemone, the feature directorial debut of his son, Ronan Day-Lewis. Before you start calling the older Day-Lewis a nepo daddy who was only cast because he knows the director, we should note that this is his movie, too. The Day-Lewises co-wrote the script for this Focus Features and Plan B film, which is said to explore “the intricate relationships between fathers, sons and brothers, and the dynamics of familial bonds.” Sean Bean, Samantha Morton, Samuel Bottomley, and Safia Oakley-Green will also star.
“We could not be more excited to partner with a brilliant visual artist in Ronan Day-Lewis on his first feature film alongside Daniel Day-Lewis as his creative collaborator,” Focus Features chairman Peter Kujawski said in a press release. “They have written a truly exceptional script, and we look forward to bringing their shared vision to audiences alongside the team at Plan B.” Anemone’s creative team also includes director of photography Ben Fordesman (Love Lies Bleeding), costume designer Jane Petrie (The Crown), and production designer Chris Oddy (Zone of Interest). No release date has been confirmed yet. Would Father’s Day weekend be too on the nose?
