NYPD increases security at NYC synagogues ahead of Rosh Hashanah
NEW YORK (PIX11) – The NYPD is stepping up patrols around New York City synagogues ahead of Rosh Hashanah, which begins Wednesday evening.
Gov. Kathy Hochul said there are no reports of threats, but that the state will remain vigilant following missile attacks on Israel from Iran.
Heavy weapons teams were positioned outside Jewish houses of worship and sensitive Jewish sites on Tuesday as the community prepares for the high holidays.
Oct. 7 will mark one year since Hamas militants waged a deadly attack on Israel, leaving thousands dead and hundreds taken hostage. Iran fired off a bombardment of ballistic missiles into Israel on Tuesday in retaliation for Israel's attacks on Hamas in the Gaza Strip and Hezbollah militants in Lebanon.
"We remain committed on the local and state level to ensure New Yorkers of all faiths, including our Jewish New Yorkers, are SAFE," Mayor Eric Adams wrote on X.
