During Tuesday night’s episode (October 1), host Bradley Walsh welcomed four new contestants to the show; Tony from Newcastle, Linda from Penrith, Roger from Monmouthshire and Rebecca from Manchester.

The group did extremely well, with Tony, Lina and Roger all gliding into the final round with a whopping £80,000 in their prize pot.

Tony and Linda delivered sound performances against Chaser Mark, 59, but it was Roger, the third player who raised the stakes, adding £71,000 to the pot.

The game got especially heated during the Final Chase when Mark was unexpectedly defeated by the trio.

During the final showdown, The Beast made a series of mistakes which caused him to lash out – and contributed to his downfall.

The contestants scored 18 during their Final Chase, with Bradley, 64, then estimating that the team were three points short of defeating the Chaser.

However, in a shocking turn of events, ITV star Mark was left slamming the table and screaming “Oh, you idiot!” to himself as he realised he answered the question, “Rabbit was a 1980 hit for which Cockney duo?” incorrectly.

Mark immediately realised his slip up as the contestants answered the question correctly and pushed him back a space.

As the clock ticked down with seconds to go, Mark had two questions left to answer and admitted defeat.

“I don’t deserve to win,” he exclaimed.

In the shocking turn of events, Mark was left defeated as the victorious contestants quickly began celebrating their substantial win.

Viewers at home shared in the amazement and celebration, with many praising Roger’s exceptional gameplay.

One enthusiastic viewer took to X, formerly Twitter, commending the episode: “I love it when the team wins, especially when they win big. Great episode today, that final Chase was really close! Well deserved, team.”

While another praised Roger for securing the majority of the prize money. “Well done Roger, won the most money and answered the most questions,” they wrote.

The Chase's best moments

The Chase has been entertaining ITV viewers for years, here are some of the show's most memorable moments...

Bradley Walsh can’t stop laughing

  • Every time host Bradley Walsh erupts into fits of laughter on The Chase it makes for pretty entertaining TV. One particularly memorable occasion was when he was asking the question ‘The title of which Elvis Presley song was engraved of the inside of Freddie Star’s coffin?” As usual the contestant was given four multiple choices but Bradley could get through reading them out before bursting into hysterics. Seeming the idea of the song being option ‘B: Way Down’ was too much for the presenter to handle.

The Double Trouble special

  • To celebrate 15 years of The Chase on screens, ITV launched a special ‘double trouble’ episode where contestants faced off against not one but two of the show’s beloved Chasers. And despite the odds, the contestants managed to go home with some cash!

The one with the famous names

  • Eagle-eyed ITV fans are always quick to spot interesting and sometimes hidden details on the quiz show – but there have been a few times where the names of some contestants have been overtly obvious. For example, one 2017 episode of the quiz show saw Bradley welcome four contestants who were named after Friends characters Ross, Rachel, Phoebe and Joey. Another group of contestants with named from The Simpsons were also grouped together in another episode, much to viewers’ amusement.

Other viewers also expressed sympathy for Rebecca, who missed out on the massive team victory.

One said: “Well played, great team and well done Roger. Hope they give Rebecca a couple of grand. Bless her, she was so disappointed.”

“Great win. Rebecca must be gutted,” agreed another.

A third fan noted: “Well done team on winning The Chase. Enjoy the money. Especially the extra £9,166 you each earned from Rebecca not getting through.”
