Dejan Kulusevski and Cole Palmer top PL table for key attacking stat this season
Dejan Kulusevski is now topping the leaderboard for a key attacking metric in the Premier League following his display at Old Trafford.
Kulusevski a transformed player
Before the start of the season, hardly anyone would have expected Ange Postecoglou to play Kulusevski as a number eight alongside James Maddison.
However, the tactical tweak has done wonders for the Tottenham side, with the Swede’s tireless running and his ability to carry the ball making the Lilywhites a lot more threatening going forward.
Interestingly, the move has not made Spurs any weaker defensively, with the North London side having an impressive defensive record so far.
Kulusevski at the top of the pile
The 24-year-old was arguably Tottenham’s best player at Old Trafford on Sunday, scoring the crucial second goal at the start of the second half and showcasing his creativity on the edge of the United box.
Following that game, it has been revealed by Whoscored that the Spurs man has now created the joint most chances from open play in the Premier League this season.
Both Kulusevski and Cole Palmer have created nine chances for their respective sides in the first six games of the season.
This is particularly impressive, considering that the former Juventus man did not start Tottenham’s opening game of the season against Leicester City.
Partnership with Maddison
Kulusevevski and Maddison seem to be forging an exceptional partnership, with the pair not only helping their side create chances but also doing the donkey work defensively.
Their tireless closing down of space also helps Postecoglou’s men pinch the ball high up the pitch regularly, with the likes of United and Brentford struggling to get through Tottenham’s press.
The pair’s understanding will only get better as they continue to play together over the coming weeks and months.
