Women's Health Wednesday: Breast cancer side effects

ALBANY, N.Y. (WTEN) - October is breast cancer awareness month. While new treatments and advances are leading to better outcomes and survival rates for those diagnosed, what comes next for those treated, can have its own challenges.

For those who need surgery to remove the cancer, there are possible side effects that could require there own course of treatment.

POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS OF BREAST CANCER SURGERY:

  • Lymphedema
  • Postural Changes from Tissue Adhesions
  • Impaired Shoulder Function
  • Pain
  • Weakness

In this week's Women's Health Wednesday, Sandra Sanderson, MSPT, CLT-LANA, a Physical Therapist at St. Peter’s Rehabilitation Services, discusses the different types of side effects and what can be done to treat them.
