Schenectady County 2025 budget proposal unveiled

SCHENECTADY COUNTY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Schenectady County Manager Rory Fluman presented the proposed 2025 budget to the County Legislature on Tuesday. The $429,613,700 plan would keep the property tax levy steady.

According to the proposal, the three key priorities are strengthening core services, sustaining infrastructure investments, and enhancing community services. Public safety, health services, social programs, county roads, bridges, public buildings, as well as libraries, workforce development, and educational programs will be at the heart of this proposed budget.

The budget calls for an increase in funding for the county's Higher Education Promise Program which covers the cost of up the six credits at the Schenectady County Community College for county residents along with investing $3.4 million in capital projects and equipment for the school. The proposal also calls for $23.6 million in road and bridge infrastructure improvements.

$128 million is proposed to go towards supporting social services. The proposal then calls for $7.5 million in airport upgrades.

The full proposed budget can be viewed on the Schenectady County website. A public hearing on the proposal will be held on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
