Travis Kelce on How Age Has Changed His Diet

The slow march of time comes for us all, when one day we realize that our bodies are aging and metabolism is slowing down. And NFL players are no exception, as Jason and Travis Kelce revealed on the latest episode of their New Heights podcast.

The brothers kicked off Wednesday's episode with Jason giving a shoutout to Neil's Donuts in Wallingford CT, after having been sent a box of the confections.

“Good thing they’re over there," Travis deadpanned to his brother, who compared the doughnuts to LaMar’s Donuts in Kansas City, MO, of which the Chiefs tight end is evidently a fan.

"Ooh, the golden yellow box. The yellow boxes are dangerous," Travis winced. "I'm at the point in the season where I'm like, let me just push it away ... just I see that golden glazed doughnut just sitting in the yellow box, I’m just like, ‘Mmm, I don’t need that today, I’ll get it tomorrow,’ knowing that they don’t have boxes of doughnuts in the building every day.

"Just lie to myself so that I don’t just grab 10 doughnuts and run around the corner and just stuff my face like a little fat kid. 'What happened to all the doughnuts?!'" he quipped, making an innocent face.

For his part, Jason, who retired from the NFL earlier this year after 13 years with the Philadelphia Eagles, empathized with his brother.

"It’s a sad day when you’re in your NFL career and you realize you’ve hit that age where you can’t just eat whatever you want anymore," the former center lamented. "I remember, I used to live for ice cream the day before games."

Jason then brought up something former Eagles tight end Brent Celek had said to him before a game one day.

"He's like, 'Man, I shouldn't have had a milkshake last night, I just feel like crap.' I was like, 'Yeah, it's not the fact you play football, it's the milkshake,'" he recalled. "And then I got to year 12 and I ate some ice cream and then tried to go play football the next day? I was like, 'Oh sh-t.'"

"Why am I so lethargic today?" Travis joked. "I just feel like a big blob. Am I bloated?"

At any rate, at least one of them doesn't have to worry so much about their athletic prowess these days, so long as he can fit into his clothes on ESPN's Monday Night Countdown.

"Well, I'm gonna keep eating these Buffalo Wild Wings and doughnuts," Jason shrugged at the end of the segment.

That said, while he no longer has to worry about his performance, Jason has been sporting a noticeably slimmed-down figure in recent months. Back in June, he revealed that he had already lost 20 pounds and was planning to lose another 20. So suffice to say, he deserves a cheat meal now and then.
