ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024: Pakistan players still waiting for last four months salary, here’s WHY
New Delhi: The Pakistan women’s cricket team started their T20 World Cup 2024 campaign on Thursday, October 3. The Pakistan team is playing its first match against Sri Lanka, but the team will not enter the field with full heart. The reason behind this is very shameful. Actually, the Pakistan women’s team has not received a salary for the last four months. The players currently have a 23-month contract with the board, which started on August 1, 2023, but they have not been paid since June 2024. The contracts, which were to run till June 30, 2025, were to be evaluated at the end of the 12-month period. It is still pending and no changes have been announced yet.
The PCB official said to Cricbuzz:
“It is a work in progress. As soon as the lists are finalized and approved, contracts will be offered with effect from 1 July 2024.”
In this situation, PCB should pay DA, but the allowance for the camp held in Multan before the home series against South Africa was not given. However, the supporting staff in the camp got an allowance for this. Pakistan’s men’s team has also been getting salary delays for the last four months. However, it is understood that the reasons for the delay in salary of the men’s team and the women’s team are different. No voice has been raised by the women cricketers of Pakistan regarding the salary, but if this kind of behaviour happens then obviously the players will enter the field reluctantly.
Pay disparity:
Pakistan’s women cricketers get the lowest salary among the full member nations. Even Pakistan is the fourth richest cricket board in the world. There is parity in the match fees of male and female cricketers of India, England and New Zealand. South Africa and West Indies are also going to join this list soon. However, this is not the case with Pakistan. The reason behind this is that there is no players association in Pakistan, which fights for their rights.
