ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10)-- Happy Friday! Meteorologist Matt Mackie says temperatures will be in the 70s and mostly sunny with clouds developing later in the evening for the NEWS10 viewing area.

CDTA has begun piloting a new electric scooter program in the Capital Region and implementing a new mirrorless video monitoring system. Also, Schenectady schools has approved new weapons monitoring detections. These stories, and more, are in your five things to know this Friday.

1. CDTA to pilot electric scooters in the Capital Region

The CDTA has begun piloting SCOOT, electric scooters. These scooters will be available starting today, Friday, Oct. 4 in Albany for the weekend before moving to Troy on Oct. 11. To rent a scooter, customers must be 18 years or older with a valid driver's license.

2. Schenectady BOE approve weapons detection measures

After weeks of public comment, the Schenectady Board of Education approved a resolution, in a 6-1 vote, to provide weapon detection measures for the district’s schools. The school says they're looking into metal detectors and other options to enhance safety measures in the schools.

3. AlbanyMed management, nurses at odds over staffing

Albany Medical Center and the union representing its nursing staff continue to be at odds over staffing concerns. Nurses say there is a staffing crisis at the hospital, while the hospital says otherwise.

4. Pawlet triple homicide suspect pleads not guilty

Brian Crossman Jr., of Granville, charged with three counts of aggravated murder in the shooting deaths of Pawlet Selectboard member Brian Crossman Sr., Erica Pawlusiak Crossman and 13-year-old Colin Taft, whose bodies were found in their home September 15, has entered a not guilty plea. Crossman Jr. will be jailed pending a hearing on whether he should be detained through trial.

5. CDTA implementing mirrorless video monitoring system

The CDTA has removed side mirrors from two of their buses and using video monitoring instead. The agency has been testing the video monitoring system for more than a year, but the mirrors stayed on the vehicles as a backup. The system is made up of two cameras on the side of the bus with two video monitors near the driver’s seat.
