Trump regaled donors with jokes about rallygoer killed by would-be assassin: leaked audio

Donald Trump mocked the widow of his supporter killed by a would-be assassin's bullet at one of his rallies, according to a leaked audio recording of him speaking to donors in Colorado.

The former president's dinner guests erupted in laughter as he quipped about the woman grieving her slain husband after he presented her with a check, according to the recording, and he suggested that some of the donors' wives would gladly trade their lives for money, reported The Guardian.

“So they’re going to get millions of dollars but the woman, the wife, this beautiful woman, I handed her the check," Trump told the appreciative audience. "We handed her the check – and she said, ‘This is so nice, and I appreciate it, but I’d much rather have my husband.’ Now, I know some of the women in this room wouldn’t say the same.”

Trump cracked a similar joke about the wife of 50-year-old Corey Comperatore at an Aug. 1 rally in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, and the crowd at both events laughed in appreciation.

“I know at least four couples," Trump said as donors roared. "There are four couples, Gov. [Greg Abbott], that I know and you’re not one of them. At least four couples here would have been thrilled, actually.”

Trump said members of his Mar-a-Lago resort asked to make contributions to the families of Comperatore, a retired firefighter who was fatally shot, and two other supporters who were wounded by 20-year-old gunman Thomas Crooks at the July 13 event in Butler.

“I said absolutely and they gave me a check for a million dollars – that’s a lot of money," Trump said. "Maybe even more impressively we put out a GoFundMe and we raised more than $6 million for the group that got hurt, which is essentially three people.”

Trump flew to Aspen on a private jet once owned by the late sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein to an Aug. 10 fundraiser hosted by investors and art collectors John and Amy Phelan, where he mingled with casino mogul Steve Wynn, billionaire businessman Thomas Peterffy, Texas governor Greg Abbott, Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL), Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) and former Colorado senator Cory Gardner.

“Look, we gotta win and if we don’t win this country’s going to hell,” Trump said. “You know, there’s an expression, this could be the last election we ever have and it’s an expression that I really believe, and I believe that this could be the last election we ever have.”

“I’m telling you we have a radical left person [vice president Kamala Harris] that’s going be president – if she wins it’s going to be a disaster – she wants to be president very badly," he added. Thank God she’s supposed to be horrible at debating, although she’s nasty, and she’s supposed to be really bad at interviews. She can’t do an interview.”
