Guglielmo Vicario reveals Spurs move has helped him achieve his dreams
Tottenham’s number one goalkeeper, Guglielmo Vicario, is loving life in North London, and he’s told the press that the move to England has been a dream come true.
Vicario stepped out of his comfort zone to join Spurs
Despite a few mistakes here and there, Guglielmo Vicario has firmly established himself as one of the best goalkeepers in the league, and has endeared himself to the Spurs faithful thanks to his highly passionate displays.
He joined the Lilywhites from Serie A side Empoli back in the summer of 2023, and has not looked back since. In fact, switching his native Italy for England really helped Vicario achieve a life goal.
He told Vivo Azzurro TV (via TuttoMercatoWeb): “My career started from the bottom, from the inter-regional level. I embarked on a path that gave me the opportunity to slowly climb all the steps, reaching Serie A.
“The transfer to the Premier League was the fulfilment of a dream: I decided to face a different life and cultural challenge, leaving what was my comfort zone.”
His international career is taking off
Since making the move to England, Vicario has seen his Italy career blossom. While it is always going to be difficult for him to oust his international captain, Gianluigi Donnarumma as the number one keeper, Vicario has found himself involved in the national squad far more frequently of late.
He was part of Italy’s Euro 2024 squad, and has impressed whenever he’s played for the Azzurri. Discussing his status as one of the best Italian keepers around, Vicario mentioned his idol growing up.
He added: “As a child I went to bed wearing Buffon’s shirt, having him with us every day is an emotion that is hard to describe.
“The national team is the dream you grow up with as a child, it’s wonderful to travel around Europe and the world with the Italian championship on my chest. I hope to continue to be part of this group and participate in the 2026 World Cup.”
Vicario would have signed in blood
It’s easy to love Vicario, when you see how passionate he is on the pitch and how much this club means to him already. It says it all that he said he would have signed his contract with Spurs in blood if he had to, and that he would have walked all the way to London to make the deal happen (Guardian).
