The latest on Dele Alli’s situation amid Tottenham’s agreement with Everton

Dele Alli’s move to Everton in 2022 involved complex clauses and agreements, and it continues to be a confusing one to this day. There have been a couple of developments for the player, though, that could bring rewards to Spurs, too.

Dele could play for Everton again this year

The initial agreement that saw Dele move to Everton on a free transfer in the January transfer window of 2022 was that Spurs would receive a payment if the midfielder hit 20 appearances for the Toffees, or if he signed a new contract at the club.

That original deal was then restructured, with a shift in focus instead to performance-related bonuses and a sell-on percentage, thus allowing Dele to discuss a new contract with Everton without the club having to worry about any financial implications with Spurs (TalkSport).

However, Dele has not been registered with Everton for the new season and is technically out of contract, though he is still training with the Merseyside club.

Although he is not part of their 25-man Premier League squad, there is a chance Dele could feature for Everton before the New Year, if he proves his fitness, of course.

That’s because Everton shifted two players on transfer deadline day — Mason Holgate and Billy Crellin — meaning the Toffees do have a spot in their squad to register a free agent.

If he were to play for Everton again and do well, then Spurs would be in line for some kind of financial compensation.

A move to Italy may be on the cards

At the same time, there is another opportunity potentially emerging for Dele to take on a new challenge in Italy, with Genoa. According to Secolo XIX, the Serie A side are keen to find a replacement for the injured Ruslan Malinovskyi.

As a free agent, Dele would be available to make that move all being well. For Tottenham, however, that would provide no monetary gain.

The money doesn’t matter

To be honest, I don’t think even the Spurs board would be looking at the Dele situation and thinking about how they can make money from any deal. The main thing is that he gets playing again and that he’s happy, so if that means a move to Italy and the end of our agreement with Everton, so be it.
